The majority of people who try to make a success of internet marketing start off without any actual system, knowledge or experience.  Even if you have an MBA and bring your own set of skills to the table, you’ll realize that online marketing has its own learning curve. The fact is, doing business online is not quite like anything you might have done offline. There are a whole different set of techniques needed to sell online; instead of making a cold call or visiting your prospect you have to figure out how to get someone to click on your landing page or subscribe to your list. It’s absolutely necessary to learn about the different ways to get website traffic if you want to succeed online.  It’s not enough to simply know, for example, that you can buy traffic with pay-per-click ads; if you want to profit from this method, you have to learn how to do it properly.  While it’s true that internet marketing uses some of the same underlying strategies as direct marketing, the way it’s applied is different in many ways.  This, sadly, sets the stage for most people who get into internet marketing to not really know what they are doing and fail at it. They have an assumption that the Internet is huge and therefore making money should be a walk in the park.  This can be quite misleading, though; you still have to figure out how to get some of these people to trust you enough to want to buy something from you.

If you have not noticed, most course about IM and telling you how much YOU can make online all have something in common – they contain hype. Yes, so many websites littering the net, teeming with hype. And they all want you to buy their expensive products. This is created by expensive product launches, fast action bonuses, and “get in now before the price goes UP” strategies. For many it’s not hard to be affected by it and believe it. Many people buy products only because they found the bonuses to be attractive or particularly useful, and later on realize that it wasn’t as it was showcased. If you ever are tempted to buy an IM course – just make sure it intelligently relates to what you do and your business. Thinking over and over again and believing all the hype will only make things harder for you.

A very common occurence or mistake seen with beginners is paying attention to too many external influences. You need to find one mentor and take his advice. But if you still listen to what others say and not your mentor, then your time will not be very effectively spent. So avoid doing that by ignoring other experts and turn your attention to your own mentor. In doing so – you will harness the power of focus, and that will greatly help you to complete your goals.

Think of internet marketing as a game that you are determined to win, no matter how long it takes. Now that you know about these common mistakes, you can avoid making them. Just be on guard in your day to day activities and you won’t fall prey to them.
