Twitter’s A Growing & Hackers Are Showing!

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Twitter in the nuz again. The exponential growth of Twitter seems to be attracting more hackers than Tweeters. With it’s vast database of members it makes the company a very attractive target.

The microblogging service Twitter was hacked during May 2009 and stolen internal company data was posted on a French blog this week.

Twitter founder Evan Williams confirmed the attack in an e-mail to TechCrunch, stating, “In general, most of the sensitive information was personal rather than company-related.”

Nevertheless, Twitter’s alleged internal projections were revealing.

Twitter estimated that 25 million people worldwide would be using the service by the end of 2009.

•2009: 25 million users
•2010: 100 million users (300% growth)
•2011: 350 million users (250% growth)

The firm projected that it would have 100 million users in 2010 and 350 million in 2011.

Don’t know if they’re being a little over optimistic or someone is looking into a glass ball & trying to predict the future. One thing is for certain, Social Media has touched a world-wide itch, and everyone seems to be scratching!

How To Get Re-Tweeted

Monday, June 15th, 2009

If you have used Twitter for any length of time, you have discovered that not all tweets are created equal. You try to be interesting with the subject matter of your tweets, but you notice that your efforts very seldom pay off with your fellow tweeters. In other words, it appears that your tweets are not retweet worthy.

Hey, you’re tweets are really not that bad. You  just have not discovered certain requirements for making your tweet worthy of a ‘retweet’. If you will follow these three suggestions, you might discover a different outcome for your tweets.

1)What’s your handle (tweet name)? Remember, the longer your username, the less space there is to retweet. When people retweet, they typically format it as “RT @username: your tweet here.” So if you want to get retweeted, make sure you’ve chosen a nice, short Twitter username, so there’s more room for thing to get retweeted over and over again.

2)The Length of your Tweet. Again, like 1) above, size matters. If you want to get retweeted often, make sure you leave a lot of space in your tweet. Typically you should leave (5 + username length) characters free in your tweet. That’ll make it much easier to get retweeted, since users won’t have to edit your tweet in order to retweet you.

3)Time of Day. If you really want to get retweeted, you need to determine when your target audience is most likely to be sitting in front of their twitter accounts. If you tweeting in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping, your tweets will not get a lot of exposure. On the other hand, if you’re posting at peak hours, you’re much more likely to see your tweets get retweeted. There are different apps that will help you discover what are the peak hours for connecting to your fellow tweeter friends.

If this article is helpful, please share your comments and hey, you might even want to retweet?
